“It was important to us to get an unbiased view of our company. Especially in the con- text of digitalisation, it’s difficult to assess in which areas you are doing well or could improve. It’s practically impossible to tell this from within”, noted Lorenz Linner. For the di- gitalisation check, which was conducted to- gether with the Nuremberg Fraunhofer Insti- tute, numerous in-depth interviews were held with selected employees at the toolmaker’s premises. “The documented interviews were then analysed to produce an objective as- sessment and evaluation of our company that showed how things stood”, explained the Managing Director, IT. Taking the perfect approach with DigiCheck Among other things, this found that there were very different levels of knowledge within the company. Thus, there is the level of ideas, of strategic planning for objectives that the company wants to achieve. Another level, meanwhile, is responsible for implementati- on, the “doing”. However, awareness of the values of data and digital processes differs greatly at these levels. “Most of us are com- pletely unfamiliar with the whole area of digi- talisation and the digital content of business models, which is also too abstract for many”, explained Lorenz Linner. It was concluded from this that a bridge needed to be built between where the company actually wanted to go and the perfect approach to involving employees in the strategic development. “In summary, DigiCheck brought us clarity about how and what we think about certain things and how we have to tackle them. We got a clearer picture that I can also use in communication with colleagues”, stated Lo- renz Linner. Moreover, the result provided impetus for comprehensive digital consulta- tion and a digital roadmap to guide practical implementation. “We are continuously working through the tasks in the roadmap, as this is not something that we can implement with a click of our fin- gers”, said Lorenz Linner. The technology required comes from Microsoft, with its Mi- crosoft Dynamics NAV standard application. Some of the value creation processes have already been digitised and are now running automatically in the background. Supply chains and manufacturing and operational processes can be easily followed. Digital contact maintenance options, service of- ferings, reports, analyses and forecasts are simplifying project management. These will also form the basis for the development of new, intelligent products at Linner in the long term. ■ COSMO CONSULT www.cosmoconsult.com Website Unternehmen & Trends 35
