126 With the increasing number of electric vehicles (EVs) on the road, the pressure is on for inno- vators to develop solutions which allow EVs to reach their full power potential. Delivering high voltage (HV) EV solutions to customers worldwide, HUBER+SUHNER has years of ex- perience in addressing the challenges of pow- ering EVs with its advanced HV distribution solution. Conducting HV power The quality of the cabling throughout the vehi- cle plays a crucial role in transmitting and pro- tecting power as it is stored in the vehicle. The cables need to be resilient against mechanical abrasion, weather, moisture, temperature, ag- gressive fluids and cover a voltage range up to 1000VAC/1500VDC according to the new ISO 19642 specification. HUBER+SUHNER cables are designed with these challenges in mind. HUBER+SUHNER RADOX ® HV cables have unique properties which enable the EVs to maintain power and continue driving. The RADOX single and multi-core cables feature an ultra-small bending radius for agile perfor- mance even in the smallest cable cross-sec- tions. The cable’s exceptional dimensional stability prevents any damage to the insula- tion and protects the cable against kinking, particularly when heavy loads are being ap- Images: © HUBER+SUHNER plied to the connector plugs and during the installation process. Cables coated with the RADOX material do not need any further protection for optimum performance, thanks to an electron-beam crosslinked material which modifies the structure of the insulation and outer sheath to become amore robust and non-melting material, ensuring maximum re- sistance to harsh environmental conditions. HUBER+SUHNER RADOX HV cables can be used in temperatures from -40°C to +150°C at a lifetime of 3000 hours without dissipa- tion of their electrical properties. Holding HV power Another challenge that EVs face is to keep high voltage cables in place over the life of the vehicle and through a range of driving condi- tions. HV automotive connectivity solutions must withstand wide temperature fluctu- ations, vibration and mechanical impact to secure and protect the HV cables and compo- nents running throughout the vehicle. The HUBER+SUHNER RADOX EV-C cable gland provides a barrier tomoisture and debris, as well as serving as a measure of cable reten- tion. It is designed for high current capacity in harsh environments and only requires minimal space (available sizes from 16 to 120 mm 2 ).
