114 Interior Cockpit Intelligence Platform – Basis for the on-board experience of the future By Andreas Wlasak, Vice President Industrial Design at Faurecia With its new Cockpit Intelligence Platform, which was presented for the first time at CES 2019, Faurecia defines the next milestone for the Cockpit of the Future. Thanks to artificial intelligence, the driving experience is tailored to each individual occupant. Interaction with the vehicle takes place intuitively via voice and gesture control. The automotive industry is currently ex- periencing a revolution in interior design – connected, increasingly autonomous vehicles are becoming more and more complex. Hard- ware, software and numerous functions have to be connected and controlled. These chang- ing needs require that innovations and solu- tions be redefined. Therefore, in collaboration with Accenture, Faurecia has developed the Cockpit Intelligence Platform (CIP), an elec- tronic interior system that manages all cock- pit functions and enables intuitive interaction between occupants and the vehicle. By means of implemented artificial intelli- gence, the Cockpit Intelligence Platform grad- ually learns to design the driving experience in a predictive and personalized way on the basis of the collected sensor data – from the automatic recognition of the driver and the setting of seat and lighting preferences to the generation of individual sound bubbles and a simplified interaction with the vehicle through speech, gestures or touch to recom- mendations for multisensory wellness pro- grams. In this way, Faurecia ensures that the occupants can relax or revitalize themselves. The Cockpit Intelligence Platform is connected to the cloud. This means that the system can securely access online and offline data at any time and ensure a continuous service experi- ence at home, in the office and in the vehicle using Edge Computing. Faurecia has consciously opted for a ser- vice-oriented approach. The Cockpit Intelli- gencePlatform’sopensourceAndroidplatform ensures that new applications and services can be easily developed and integrated.
