Customer Developments Increase Complexity Based on their comprehensive know-how in questions of EDI-based logistics and Just-in- Sequence processing, the WSW experts rec- ognize early on, whether the integration of a new VDA recommendation in SAP ERP is even possible. If the integration is not possible, an alternative solution is developed and imple- mented in close collaboration and alignment with the respective projective of the CIT work group. However, even if the integration is possible, the incorporation of the new VDA recom- mendation in a SAP ERP landscape may prove to be very difficult practically. In particular, the process requirements of the different OEMs with respect to EDI data exchange – keyword OEM process – are a challenge for the suppliers. Thus, the suppliers often try to integrate the requirements into their SAP software using in-house solutions. As a sepa- rate IT solution must be developed for every new requirement, this increases the com- plexity of the SAP landscape unnecessarily and impacts efficiency and flexibility of the operating sequences. SPEEDI Extends SAP without Modifications It becomes significantly simpler and more efficient, if the automotive supplier uses an innovative integration, solution, and visual- ization platform such as SPEEDI from WSW Software. It is seamlessly integrated in SAP ERP and extends the SAP Standard without modifications. As a “Toolbox”, SPEEDI pro- vides numerous, configurable, and reusable “out-of-the-box” functions – monitors, re- ports, solutions, and forms. By now, there are more than 1,400 modules – and we continuously add more. With that, solutions and complete solution packages can be created quickly, which map addition- al EDI and process requirements practically and SAP-compliantly. The new process logic is available directly in SAP Standard. Correctly Processing Global EDI Formats The advantages of SPEEDI can be illustrated particularly well on the example of EDI mes- sages in the EDIFACT format, which replace the “classic” VDA message formats. WSW Software extended the add-on early with the “Global EDI Messages” solution package. Us- ing this package, automotive suppliers using SAP ERP can quickly and easily change over to these EDIFACT formats. The SPEEDI solution ensures that all infor- mation transmitted by an OEM in the global EDIFACT format is correctly captured and processed by the SAP-ERP system of the supplier – with full integration of delivery notes, invoices, and further SAP documents. The additional data fields, which global EDI formats require compared to classic VDA formats, can be seamlessly integrated and mapped in SAP. The required fields and in- formation are supplemented in the SAP IDocs and the global EDIFACT formats automatical- ly filled with the required data contents. Map- ping and mapping specifications are provided by WSW Software. Fast Know-how Transfer Is a Competitive Factor This is an invaluable advantage for automotive suppliers. They also benefit from the fact that – thanks to their participation in the VDA – WSW Software is involved in the development of new OEM processes or recommendations for EDI communication in the supply chain. The IT service provider has information they directly transfer to their customers in the automobile component supplier industry. At the same time, this knowledge is incorpo- rated in a respective SPEEDI solution. This is possible, as WSW Software already creates a Proof-of-Concept (POC) of the later SPEEDI solution in an early stadium of the develop- ment of a new recommendation (such as VDA 4939 for transport and shipping docu- ments), which is continuously improved and refined. Therefore, the customer can already use a fully functional SPEEDI solution including all map- ping shortly after publication of the new rec- ommendation. Such a quick know-how trans- fer, where new EDI requirements are quickly incorporated in the SAP processes, represents a real added value and competitive advantage in the dynamic business environment, in par- ticular for medium-sized automotive suppliers.
