autoregion international 2/2020 - Greater Region Mobility Innovation

15 concerned we will see a high share of electric drives. With regard to bigger vehicles for me- dium- and long distances there will be both a large share of hybrid drive technologies as well as of classic highly efficient ICEs. However, it is hugely important that the hybrids are really charged with green electricity. Otherwise it could happen, that this technology ends up in a drawer somewhere. After 2030 the hydro- gen or fuel cell engine could take a leading role as concerns drive concepts for long distance vehicles. Even at a very early stage COVID-19 has made us realize the European OEMs de- pendency on global supply chains. Does KST profit from its after-effects? Professor Reiff: Due to the localization con- straints of certain target markets it will not be possible to completely avoid global interde- pendencies. What we do notice is that our con- tractors wish to be close by and in a position to accompany their engine tests. I am convinced that wewill be able to score even higher points with our local expertise than before. Here at the Bad Dürkheim location we have enough room for all currently envisaged expansions. Another important advantage is our excellent network and strong catchment area for highly qualified new young employees. With the Willy Wolf-Academy which is named in honour of KST‘s founder the company has its own seminar rooms. What are the motives and what are the advantages for KST? Professor Reiff: The Willy Wolf-Academy provides us with a new platform for net- working and communication activities re- lating to the mobility concepts of tomorrow. In various theme evenings with a wide audi- ence from the areas of science, our customer base and staff members we report about research projects and intensify networking projects with high schools. In these rooms we also offer our staff members optimal conditions for on-site instruction and train- ing measures. In which area of expertise is KST planning an expansion of its test field? Professor Reiff: In the field of electro-mobil- ity where we already address a wide range of tests we will develop our expertise for in- verter technologies and power electronics. Of course, we will continue to have the classical ICE on our radar and get ready for progress as regards hydrogen combustion engines and fuel cells. Weiterlesen … https://t1p.de/h0dg Summary KST‐Motorenversuch GmbH & Co.
