Smart signals here would be lowering corporate taxes to an internationally competitive level and expand- ing tax loss offsetting from the Corona year with profits from previous years. But it would be at least as important to create the basis on which the innovations of the future can arise. From the point of viewof the Chamber of Com- merce and Industry, more speed in implement- ing the digital agenda and a real openness to new technologies (hydrogen, synthetic fuels) instead of a one-sided focus on battery-pow- ered electric drives should be the guideline for retail. This would also take the pressure off the supplier industry, which is still around 80 percent dependent on the combustion engine. Despite all the economic upheavals, the co- rona crisis has one good thing: it is a driver and innovation accelerator. It demands of us not to rest on the successes of the past, but to leave old paths and break new ground. This has al- ready worked well with the digital transfor- mation and new forms of work. If politics and companies take this to heart in fields other than call-to-action, the economy as a whole has good opportunities to catch up in 2021! Let’s tackle it together. Ungewöhnlich war es auf jeden Fall, in vielen Bereichen sogar ver- rückt oder disruptiv: Die globale Corona- Pandemie hat nahezu alles torpediert, was wir bisher als selbstverständlich angesehen haben. Sie hat insbesondere unser Zusammenleben, unsere Freiheit und zahlreiche unternehmerische Tätig- keiten erheblich belastet. Ökonomisch ging in Deutschland mit der tiefen Rezes- sion 2020 eine zuvor zehnjährige Wachs- tumsphase zu Ende. Spätestens mit dem Einsetzen der zweiten Infektionswelle im Herbst hatten die Pessimisten leider end- gültig die Oberhand gewonnen. All dies versprach nichts Gutes, denn eigentlich ist „Optimismus Pflicht“, wie bereits Karl Popper festgestellt hat. Doch zumEnde des Jahreswaren die guten Nachrichten endlich da – und dies gleich in mehrfacher Hinsicht. Der erste Corona- Impfstoff wurde in Europa zugelassen. Mit steigenden Impfquoten dürfte es in absehbarer Zeit gelingen, die Pandemie in den Griff zu bekommen.
