The SnT also plays a key role in Luxembourg’s artificial intelligence (AI) competence centre developed together with Silicon Valley AI giant NVIDIA. This joint centre with NVIDIA is the first of its kind in Europe. Luxembourg is also investing in technical infrastructure allowing the secure collec- tion and use of big data. Home to a high number of top-tier, highly secure data cen- tres, the country will launch the operations of its business-oriented high performance computer (HPC) in 2020. The HPC is part of the future European supercomputer net- work (EuroHPC). About two thirds of its capacity will be available for companies, and a specialised teamwill provide support with using the HPC in an optimal manner for digital innovation. Mobility innovation campus As part of its efforts to support the mobil- ity sector, the Luxembourg government is investing in the Mobility Innovation Cam- pus that is currently taking shape in Bissen, located 20 minutes north of Luxembourg City. Extending over 14 ha, the campus will host start-ups as well as well-established automotive companies and become the physical heart of the mobility ecosystem. Global sensor technologies specialist IEE has already relocated its activity there, and Goodyear will soon follow suit with some 130 staff members. In 2021, the campus will get its own business incubation facil- ity with co-working spaces and offices, as well as meeting rooms, a large conference facility and a restaurant. Digital innovation is driven by human inter- action and imagination. The aim with the campus is to create a location where com- panies are able to work together, leverage synergies and build a true community on a lively site characterised by open innovation and shared R&D. Free space is available for interested investors, and start-ups that want to move in immediately can get ac- cess directly to temporary offices. Luxembourg AutoMobility Cluster: a wide range of expertise Luxembourg is today home to a flourishing mobility innovation community. Several of its members are featured in this magazine. Numerous global players such as Delphi, Mahle, SAIC, Goodyear, IEE, Carlex, Arce- lorMittal and CEBI enjoy the advantages of a Luxembourg-based European sales and R&D headquarters complementary to nearby manufacturing or end-assembly activities, and it is often said that in every vehicle there is at least one part that has been developed or produced here. The country also attracts start-ups, such as Carpay Diem, which provides a solution for the remote payment of fuel, Oply, which offers a car-sharing platform, and Ujet, which manufactures a revolutionary elec- tric scooter. The cluster focuses on collaborative R&D, in- novation projects, sector competence mapping, operational excellence initia- tives, training and education, and busi- ness development. Many of the companies active in the cluster work in fields such as comfort and convenience, human-machine interfaces (HMI), new energy powertrains, vehicle dynamics, body and chassis, fuel management and emission control. Priority areas also include active and passive safety, advanced driver assist systems (ADAS), ve- hicle connectivity and infotainment. Even though no car manufacturers have production sites in Luxembourg, the coun- try is actively involved in the strategic development of this highly competitive sector. It participates in several transna- tional and European initiatives that favour mobility innovation.
